ABOUT ME

Hi, I'm Melissa. In 2016, I got my PhD in German Studies from Stanford University, where I wrote a dissertation on the concept of wandering in early 20th century German/Jewish opera. Then, because the academic job market is super predictable, I got a fantastic job in Game Studies at Bangor University in Wales. I couldn't be more excited, but I'm coming at this from performance studies/comp lit, not from growing up as a hardcore gamer. A lot of the games I know and love are small indie titles, and before I got this gig, I had never successfully played a First Person Shooter. So this blog is an attempt to fill in the gaps with a quick and dirty review of a hundred important games—the way they play, the meaning they had, what I feel and think when I play them.
